USDA Rural Development has available the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to help farmers and rural, small, for-profit businesses install renewable energy systems or make energy efficiency improvements to their operations. Grants of up to 50% of the eligible project costs are available with a maximum grant of $1,000,000 for renewable energy projects and $500,000 for energy efficiency improvement projects. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 provided the program over $250,000,000 for REAP grants which is five times the amount allocated to this program in previous years. REAP application submission is strongly encouraged. Loan guarantee assistance is available to help finance these projects. REAP prohibits funding residential renewable energy and residential energy efficiency improvement projects.
